The students will be able to –
CO16: analyze AC and DC circuits and evaluate schematics of power efficient electrical circuits by using different circuital theorems.
CO17:Analyze the response of series and parallel circuits and Phase or diagram.
CO18: compare basic principle of the transformers and electric motors. The knowledge would include interfacing aspects and consumer defined control of speed and power.
CO19: create capability to design A.C. and D.C. electric circuits for specific purposes and study the same and put to application. |
Approach in teaching: Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Tutorials, Reading assignments, Demonstration, problem solving in tutorials. Learning activities for the students: Self learning assignments, Effective questions, Seminar presentation. |
Class test, Semester end examinations, Quiz, Solving problems , Assignments, Presentations |
Open and short circuits, Kirchoff’s laws, DC Networks: Node Voltage and Mesh Current Analysis; Source Conversion. Superposition Theorem, Thevenin’s Theorem, Norton’s Theorem, Maximum power Transform
Transformer: Magnetic coupled circuits, Dot convention for coupled circuits, coefficient of coupling, mutual inductance, EMF Equation, Voltage & Current, Relationship and Phasor Diagram of Ideal Transformer.
Introduction to principle of DC Machines, synchronous machines and induction motors, single phase and three phase induction motor, dynamo, alternator, inverter.
