Objective: 

Course Objectives:

This course will enable the students to –

  1. To enable students to do experiments on the fundamental laws and principles, and gain experience of using a variety of measuring instruments.
  2. To enhance basic learning skills of the students.
  3. To give students opportunity of learning by doing and develop a correlation between theory and practical.

Lab Course XI

 (Practical)

 

 

 

The students will be able to:

 

CO130: assess the validity of physical theories through the design and execution of an experiment.

CO131: The analysis of uncertainties associated with the measurement of data and the interpretation of the data to draw valid scientific conclusions (lab skills).

CO132: be able to handle useful equipment’s related to solid-state physics like hall effect, hysteresis loss of transformer, four probe methods.

Approach in teaching:

Demonstration, Group activity, Discussion, Conduction of Experiments, Asking viva voce questions.

Performing Experiments, Analysis and interpretation of observations.

Class test, Semester end examinations, Viva voce, Practical record file

 

CONTENTS

List of Experiments  

  1. To draw the BH curve of Fe using Solenoid & determine energy loss from Hysteresis.
  2. To measure the resistivity of a semiconductor with temperature by four-probe method and to determine its band gap.
  3. To determine the Hall coefficient of a semiconductor sample.
  4. To measure the resistivity of a semiconductor (Ge) with temperature by two-probe method and to determine its band gap.
  5. Analysis of X-Ray diffraction data in terms of unit cell parameters and estimation of particle size.
  6. Study of a Heat Capacity of Solids.
