Topic:  “Organic Materials for device application”

Guest speaker: Prof. R.K. Bedi, Director, Satyam Institute of Engineering and Technology, Amritsar.

Prof. R.K. Bedi started the talk with the introduction of organic materials. Organic material contains Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Hydrogen elements and unique chemistry of C gives rich variety range. Their proportions can be tailored as per requirements. These types of materials resolve the problem of cost factor and also improve the efficiency in different application.

He also explained the difference between the working of inorganic and organic materials. After this they talked about the objective for organic materials and synthesis techniques. Then they explained how we can apply this in solar cell application and improve the efficiency.

After this they explained the difference between LED and LCD and of course LED is more efficient then LCD. Then he talked about how we can apply synthesized organic materials in LED’s.

In the end of lecture he discussed about the Nobel Prize in physics 2014 which is awarded to Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura for invented a new energy-efficient and environment-friendly light source – the blue light-emitting diode (LED). With the advent of LED lamps we now have more long-lasting and more efficient alternatives to older light sources.
