Report on the Tribute Meeting for Professor Loknathan

A heartfelt tribute meeting was held on May 15, 2025 at IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur, to honour the memory and lasting contributions of Professor S. Loknathan, a revered teacher, mentor, and scholar. The event was attended by former students, colleagues, and faculty members who came together to remember and celebrate his life and work.

The atmosphere was one of reflection and gratitude, as many recalled the profound influence Professor Loknathan had on their academic and personal lives. The meeting began with the introductory note from Prof. Ritu Jain, Professor Dept. of Physics, IISU, Jaipur and Secretary IAPT RC-06 who highlighted Professor Loknathan’s invaluable contributions to the academic community at large. After that Prof. K.S.Sharma, President, IAPT RC-06 presented a Tribute note for Prof. S.Loknathan.  Prof. Y.K.Vijay, former President IAPT RC-06 gave a visual presentation of memorable photographs and testimonials, leaving the audience with a deep sense of loss, but also a strong feeling of appreciation for having known and learned from such a remarkable individual.

A significant part of the meeting was devoted to student tributes, where several of his former students spoke warmly and sincerely about their time with Professor Loknathan. They recalled his dedication to teaching, his unique ability to simplify complex topics, and his unwavering support and encouragement. Prof. Y. S. Sisodia, Prof. B.K.Sharma, Prof I.P.Jain, Prof. K.C.Sharma, Prof. Anjali Krishnamurthy, Prof. B.K.Srivastava, Prof. Vinod Kumar, Prof. Y.L.Sharma, Prof. Usha Chandra, Prof. Ramphal Sharma, Mr. R.K.Parashari and some students of Prof. Loknathan shared their memories with Prof. Loknathan.

One student recounted how Professor Loknathan’s belief in her potential helped shape her career path, while another described his approachable nature and the many informal conversations that left a lasting impact. Many emphasized not only his academic brilliance but also his humility, compassion, and commitment to nurturing young minds.

Common themes that emerged from these tributes included his rigorous academic standards, encouraging mentorship, and genuine interest in the well-being of his students. It was evident that Professor Loknathan was much more than a teacher—he was a guide, a role model, and a lifelong inspiration to many.

The meeting ended with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Ritu Jain, Secretary, IAPT RC-06 and then a group photo was captured to keep a memory of the meeting.

The tribute meeting was a fitting reflection of the legacy Professor Loknathan leaves behind—one of knowledge, kindness, and enduring influence.
