Physics

The department of Physics was established in July 1995 and has since grown into one of the major centres for teaching and learning at the IIS University. Department offers the following programmes

• B.Sc
• B.Sc (H) Physics
• M.Sc. Physics
• Ph.D.

The department is further strengthened by the state of the art infrastructure with well equipped laboratories, resources and trained technicians. Within a span of nearly 25 years the department has made remarkable progress in terms of number as well as quality of students. The department has competent and dedicated faculty members, whose areas of expertise and research includes nearly all domains of Physical Sciences. The research work done is well documented in the form of research publications in various national and international journals. Faculty members also participate in training and other academic enrichment activities, attend and present papers in national and international conferences and take up various research projects that keep them abreast with the current development in their fields.

The department has taken a lead in introducing innovations in the curricula and pedagogy by way of introducing papers on latest concepts and including componentof communications skills, Bio Physics, Medical Physics and Astrophysics i the syllabus of PG students. Papers on Contemporary topics like Renewable Energy, Nanotechnology have been incorporated in the syllabus of B.Sc. (H) Physics. Software like MATHEMATICA, MATLAB, WIEN 2K, Quantum Espresso, SPSS, P-Spice, R, Python, Scilab introduced in Practical courses at UG /PG level. All this is an effort to inculcate aptitude and awareness of the students towards research and development.

Pedagogy at the department include a number of modern teaching methods likeseminars, field visits, audio video presentations, workshops, guest lectures,demonstrations, use of ICT resources, quiz, poster competition, research paper presentations, assignments etc. Department has integrated Spoken Tutorial and Virtual labs in curricula. To develop research aptitude and development skills in post graduate students, industry visits and projects are included as mandatory components in their curricula and they are encouraged to take up latest technology for their projects and presentations.

Department of Physics is conducting research on applications of microwave techniques for study of molecular behavior of different chemicals of pharmaceutical importance and also the studies on correlation between electrical and nutritional properties of food materials. The department has informal collaboration with Dept. of Physics, University of Rajasthan, CEERI Pilani, Inter University accelerator Centre, New Delhi etc. The alumni of the department are holding key positions in the various industries and other academic institutions.
