Organic Materials for device application

The IIS University

Department of Physics

Report: Guest Lecture

Date: 14th September 2015                                                                           Time: 11.30AM

Topic:  “Organic Materials for device application”

Guest speaker: Prof. R.K. Bedi, Director, Satyam Institute of Engineering and Technology, Amritsar.

Prof. R.K. Bedi started the talk with the introduction of organic materials. Organic material contains Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Hydrogen elements and unique chemistry of C gives rich variety range. Their proportions can be tailored as per requirements. These types of materials resolve the problem of cost factor and also improve the efficiency in different application.

He also explained the difference between the working of inorganic and organic materials. After this he talked about the objective for organic materials and synthesis techniques. He also explained how we can apply this in solar cells  and improve the efficiency.

He explained the difference between LED and LCD and emphasized that LED is more efficient then LCD.  He talked about how we can apply synthesized organic materials in LED’s.

In the end of lecture he discussed about the Nobel Prize in physics 2014 which was awarded to Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura for inventing a new energy-efficient and environment-friendly light source – the blue light-emitting diode (LED). With the advent of LED lamps we will  now have more long-lasting and more efficient alternatives to older light sources.
